Rhone River

Rhone River cruises explore the beautiful Provence region in southern France. Often, sailings of the Rhone are paired with sailings of the Saone River, which runs through the Burgundy region.

Sample celebrated Cote du Rhone wines in the twin cities of Tournon and Tain L'Hermitage, which face each other across the river. Visit the immense Gothic Palace of the Popes in Avignon, called the "City of Popes" because it was the seat of the papacy in the 14th century. Viviers is a very beautiful old town nestled between hills and the river, and its narrow, cobblestoned lanes invite exploration.

Itineraries also call at 2,000-year-old Lyon, known as France's epicurean center and located at the convergence of the Rhone and Saone. Much of it is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and you can survey the city from atop Fourviere Hill and explore ancient Roman ruins. More Roman treasures await in Arles, where the vistas inspired artist Vincent Van Gogh, who arrived in 1888 and produced more than 300 works during his tenure here.
