River Cruise Itinerary
Days 1 - 2: Fly to Shanghai
Fly overnight to the exuberant city of Shanghai, called ‘the Paris of the East’. Depending on your time of arrival the rest of the day is yours to start soaking up the local culture. 
 
Day 3: Explore Shanghai
Shanghai is China’s great metropolis, where east and west collide on streets lined with futuristic skyscrapers and 10th century temples. Today’s explorations include the peaceful Yu Gardens, the Silk Museum, the atmospheric alleys of the old town, and the fine arts and antiquities of the Shanghai Museum. Admire the magnificent colonial architecture with a stroll along the Bund. This evening view the city from the Huangpu River on a panoramic cruise. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
 
Day 4: Yangtze River Cruise
Board your Victoria Cruises Yangtze ship to begin an eight night cruise to Chongqing. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) 
 
Day 5: Nanjing
Half day excursion to historical Nanjing, China’s capital under six dynasties. Visit the mausoleum of Dr Sun Yat Sen, set majestically on the slopes of Mount Zijin, and a Qing Dynasty bazaar. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
 
Day 6: Mt Jiuhua
One of the four scared mountains of Chinese Buddhism, Mt Jiuhua is a beautiful and tranquil place dotted with age-old temples, waterfalls and pine trees. Follow one of many winding paths to find the most scenic spots. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
 
Day 7: Wuhan
Take a shore excursion to the characterful city of Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province, and home to the Hubei Provincial Museum. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
 
Day 8: Cruising the Yangtze
Spend the day soaking up the sights and sounds of the river as we cruise up the Yangtze. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
 
Day 9: Three Gorges Dam
Sailing through the Gezhou Dam close to Yichang, where we begin the approach to the Three Gorges Dam. There will be time to visit the viewing area to truly appreciate the scale of this hydroelectric project. Continuing upstream, passing through the Xiling Gorge, our boat must negotiate the five-tiered Three Gorges Dam ship lock! (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
 
Day 10: Wu and Qutang Gorges
Prepare for breathtaking vistas as the ship passes through Wu and Qutang gorges. Switching to smaller vessels take a relaxing trip into the attractive gorges of the Goddess Streams. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
 
Day 11: Fengdu Ghost City
Explore the captivating temples of Fengdu and come face to face with statues of ghosts and devils on Mingshan Hill. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) 
 
Day 12: Drive to Chengdu
Disembark and visit the ancient district of Ciqikou for a tasty lunch before driving to Chengdu. This evening, there will be a delicious Sichuan meal to enjoy. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) 
 
Day 13: Pandas
A visit to Chengdu’s famous Panda Conservation Centre allows you to see, and learn about, China’s celebrated icons up close in surroundings that mirror their natural habitat. Visit the Shu Brocade Factory then fly to Xian, the ancient former capital where, this evening, there will be a delicious feast of traditional Shui Jiao dumplings and a performance of Tang Dynasty dancing. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
 
Day 14: Terracotta Warriors
After their fortuitous discovery in the 1970s, the Terracotta Army of China’s first Emperor Qin Shi Huang has intrigued visitors ever since. Spend the morning viewing the enigmatic ranks of these life sized warriors. Visit the workshop of the craftsmen who recreate Terracotta Warriors in the style of their ancient counterparts. Watch the skilled production process and choose your own warrior to take home. This afternoon stroll on the beautifully preserved 14th century city walls that enclose Xian’s old town. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
 
Day 15: Explore Xian, fly to Beijing
A relaxed morning includes time to walk through the atmospheric alleys of the Muslim Quarter which are lined with Islamic food stalls. Later, fly to Beijing, China’s capital city. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) 
 
Day 16: Imperial Beijing
Heading to Beijing’s symbolic heart, stroll across Tiananmen Square and into the sprawling magnificence of the Forbidden City. Entering through the Gate of Supreme Harmony, you will find a complex full of imperial riches. Later soak up the harmonious ambience of the Temple of Heaven, an orderly oasis in a bustling urban landscape, where you can watch, or participate in, a dance class. A Chinese acrobatic show rounds off the day. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
 
Day 17: Great Wall
This morning is dedicated to China’s most iconic sight – the Great Wall. Taking a walk on this incredible structure is the best way to appreciate both the sheer magnificence of the wall itself and the dramatic scenery that it crosses. In the afternoon visit the Jade Factory, then savour the idyllic landscapes of the Summer Palace as you wander through traditional Chinese gardens and view the exquisite architecture. This evening, savour Beijing’s best known delicacy – Peking Duck. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
 
Day 18: Fly Beijing to USA
Fly to the USA, arriving home the same or following day. (Breakfast)
