Day 1 Arrive Bucharest
Welcome to Bucharest, Romania. You will be met at the airport by an Emerald Waterways representative and transferred to your centrally located hotel. Join your tour director and fellow travellers for a welcome dinner at your hotel. (D)

Day 2 Bucharest
Your city tour includes the enormous Palace of the Parliament, Europe’s largest building constructed by former dictator Nicolae Ceausescu. The city’s wide avenues have a distinctly French feel, in fact the city is often referred to as the Paris of the East. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure. (B)

Day 3 Bucharest
Enjoy free time this morning to explore the city with its wide boulevards and designer shops or join our Optional Tour excursion (additional expense) and visit Snagov Monastery, the supposed burial site of Vlad the Impaler, commonly known as Count Dracula, and learn about the mysteries of bygone eras. After lunch, we journey by road to your Emerald Starship and embark at the riverside city of Silistra. Tonight, enjoy a welcome dinner onboard. (B,L,D)

Day 4 Silistra
Once a Roman fort under the Byzantine Empire and later part of the Ottoman conquest, the riverside city of Silistra is now a major cultural, industrial, transportation and educational centre of north-eastern Bulgaria. Spend your morning at leisure relaxing around the city. Perhaps visit some of the historical landmarks including a Roman tomb, remains of the medieval fortress, an Ottoman fort or an art gallery.  Later enjoy a visit to a local village to experience the traditional farming community. Day 5 Veliko Tarnovo - Arbanassi - Svishtov
Travel by coach to the impressive cliff top town of Veliko Tarnono, the former capital of the Bulgarian empire known once as the ‘city of the Tsars’. Then visit the historic town of Arbanassi perched on a high plateau overlooking the Yantra valley and lined with traditional houses. The town is known for its 17th and 18th century churches and many examples of Bulgarian National Revival architecture. Re-join your ship in the town of Nikopol. (B,L,D)

Day 6 Iron Gate
Relax on board today as you sail through the narrow gorge between the European Alps and Carpathian Mountains known as the Iron Gates. The narrow and once dangerous passage boasts spectacular scenery forming the border between Serbia and Romania. (B,L,D)
Day 7 Belgrade
Serbia’s vibrant capital awaits today, your city tour includes a visit to Tito’s Memorial, the impressive Fortress Kalemegdan and St Sava Church which is the world’s largest orthodox cathedral. Enjoy a Serbian dinner on board and folkloric evening showing dances from all around Serbia. (B,L,D)

Day 8 Vukovar - Osijek
Cruise into the border region of Croatia today to Vukovar then enjoy a walking tour of Osijek. EmeraldPLUS: Enjoy meeting a local family who will host you for a traditional home hosted lunch and an opportunity to learn about everyday life. Compare stories back at the ship and enjoy an evening on board. (B,L,D)

Day 9 Kalocsa
Early this morning we sail towards Kalocsa, one of the oldest towns in Hungary, famous for the production of paprika. Visit a local Puszta Horse Farm and enjoy a performance showcasing the exceptional riding skills of the Magyar horseman. (B,L,D)

Day 10 Budapest
Today is a full day at leisure in Budapest. Your Cruise Director will be on hand to assist on you how best to spend your day. Perhaps a visit to the city market, enjoy relaxing at the local thermal baths. This evening join your fellow travellers for a night–time cruise along the Danube, passing under the city’s numerous bridges, whilst enjoying a traditional Hungarian dinner complete with folk dancing and music. (B,L,D)

Day 11 Budapest
Budapest is Eastern Europe’s liveliest and most cosmopolitan city. Enjoy a guided tour of the city sights including the Royal Palace of Buda, hilltop castle complex and the Chain Bridge linking Buda and Pest. This afternoon you depart for Bratislava. (B,L,D)

Day 12 Bratislava
This morning we arrive at the city of Bratislava, capital of the Republic of Slovakia. Enjoy a sightseeing tour including the enchanting Old City with its Town Hall, Mirbach Palace and the Gothic Cathedral of St Martin. EmeraldPLUS: The highlight will be a home hosted afternoon tea with a local Slovakian family. (B,L,D)

Day 13 Vienna
Today we explore Austria’s capital beginning with a drive along the Ringstrasse, where we will see Vienna’s world–famous Opera House, Burgtheatre, Spanish Riding School, Town Hall, St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the Hofburg Imperial Palace. Then you have free time to sample the wonderful tastes of Vienna. (B,L,D)

Day 14 Durnstein - Melk
In the morning we arrive in Dürnstein, one of the most enchanting villages of the Wachau wine region. This is the site of the castle where Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned after returning from the crusades in the 12th century. Thereafter you drive through the picturesque landscape of this district to the 900–year old Benedictine Abbey of Melk, which features Austria’s finest Italian baroque architecture. Day 15 Passau
Cruise along the Danube this morning, in the afternoon we reach Passau. Cobblestone streets and graceful arcades welcome you in this beautiful city. On this afternoon’s walking tour, stroll through the old town’s narrow alleys and see the hilltop Oberhaus Fortress from the town below. Visit St. Stephen’s Cathedral, a wonderful example of Baroque architecture and home to Europe’s largest church organ with more than 17,000 pipes. (B,L,D)

Day 16 Regensburg - Kelheim
After breakfast we arrive in magnificent Regensburg. On our guided walking tour you’ll have the chance to see one of the oldest bridges crossing the Danube and see the city’s architectural highlights including the Old Town Hall. EmeraldPLUS: Tonight, enjoy a Bavarian band on board. (B,L,D)

Day 17 Disembarkation Nuremberg
Overnight and this morning travel along the Main-Danube canal, an engineering masterpiece linking the rivers of Germany with the mighty Danube which flows from the Alps to the Black Sea. Some of the locks are as high as 25 metres, with only inches on each side, the navigation of them showcases the Captain’s skill. Disembark your ship and transfer to the airport for your onward or homebound flight. (B)
