Day 1 Arrive Cairo, Egypt

Day 2 Cairo
Meet your private Egyptologist and begin your immersion in the "cradle of ancient civilization" with a tour of the venerable Egyptian Museum, the country’s richest collection of antiquities, and its renowned mummy room. Then, explore the treasures of bustling Cairo with visits to the massive Citadel, home to Egypt’s rulers for seven centuries, the Hanging Church of Saint Mary and the alabaster Mosque of Muhammad Ali. Stop in the striking 13th century Sultan Hassan Mosque and learn more about the impact of Christianity in Egypt at the Coptic Museum. Take in the heady scents and sounds of the oldest bazaar of the Middle East as you stroll through its labyrinth of alleys filled with countless shops. (BLD)
Day 3 Cairo
Your Egyptologist escorts you 5,000 years back in time to the ancient capital of Memphis. Marvel at the giant Alabaster Sphinx and the limestone Colossus of Ramses II before continuing to Sakkara and its sprawling necropolis. Here, you’ll visit the Step Pyramid of King Zoser, Egypt’s first stone pyramid, and then set off to one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World - the Great Pyramids and Sphinx of Giza. Ride a camel or a horse to view these engineering marvels as you like. Wrap up your sightseeing at the Solar Boat Museum to view the unearthed remains of Cheops' huge funerary boat. (BLD)
Day 4 Cairo / Luxor
Begin your journey down the Nile with a flight to Luxor, site of ancient Egypt’s capital city of Thebes. (BL)
Day 5 Nile River Cruise
Board the River Tosca, your elegant cruise ship for the next four nights as you continue your exploration of Egypt’s magnificent UNESCO sites. After lunch on board the ship, meet your private Egyptologist to explore the fascinating Karnak Temple dedicated to the ancient Egyptians’ Sun God; its iconic Hypostyle Hall encompasses a lavish 134 towering columns. Take in the grand views of the world’s longest river from your private balcony and savor a leisurely afternoon as your ship travels north to Dendera. Each night of your cruise, you’ll be attended to by the talented culinary staff ready to fulfill your desires, whether it’s recommending wines or selections from the gourmet menu or tempting you with delicious desserts, prepared fresh daily on board. Day 6 Nile River Cruise
Accompanied by your private Egyptologist, this morning’s excursion is dedicated to exploring the wonderfully-preserved complex of the Temple of Hathor, the ancient goddess of maternal and family love. Return to your ship for lunch - a feast of fresh salads, seasonal vegetables, artisan cheeses, homemade soups, and carved-to-order roasts. Then, cruise back to Luxor where you’ll disembark to view its magnificent temple dedicated to Amun, the God of Thebes. (BLD)
Day 7 Nile River Cruise
Join your private Egyptologist for a full morning of exploring Luxor's West Bank. Venture into the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens. While you’ll visit just three of the 13 tombs open to visitors, the valleys contain some 63 tombs of the great pharaohs and their families carved in the rock. (Ask about arranging an optional visit to King Tut’s tomb at an additional cost.) Learn the story of Queen Hatshepsut, the queen who ruled as pharaoh, when you view her mortuary temple at Deir el-Bahri, considered one of Egypt’s finest buildings ever. On your return, you can’t miss the colossal remains of the two statues of Pharaoh Amenohotep III, all that is left of his temple. Return to your ship to continue your southbound journey, passing through the Esna lock to Kom Ombo. Don traditional Egyptian dress for this evening’s festive dinner and Galabeya party. (BLD)
Day 8 Nile River Cruise
Today brings you to the dual temple in Kom Ombo, dedicated to the falcon-headed god Haroeris and the crocodile god Sobek. Cruise on to Aswan to visit the giant High Dam. Built in 1960, the dam created the second largest artificial lake in the world and meant the relocation of monumental ancient temples. Visit the granite quarries used to build the ancient temples, and see the Unfinished Obelisk - the largest piece of stone ever handled in the world. Explore the Philae Temple, which was dismantled and rebuilt on higher ground to escape the flooding caused by the dam. Your afternoon is capped with the chance to sail on a traditional felucca to visit the botanical gardens on Plantation Island. Tonight, you’ll be captivated by a Nubian folkloric show aboard your ship. (BLD)
Day 9 Aswan / Abu Simbel / Depart
Disembark your floating hotel this morning and fly to Abu Simbel, site of the colossal Temples of Ramses II and Queen Nefertari. When Aswan’s High Dam was built, the temples were moved and reconstructed inside a man-made mountain. Later, transfer to the airport for your flight to Cairo, where you’ll be greeted and driven to a day room where you can relax for the afternoon. Enjoy a farewell dinner, before your transfer to the airport for your international flight. (BLD)
