OPTION A: Take a Walking Tour of Passau and Climb Around the Famous Tree Path Kopfing
Enjoy a lovely all-day excursion beginning with a themed walking tour of Passau, led by a local expert dressed in 18th century period clothing. One of Passau's many highlights is St Stephen's Cathedral, with its 17,000 pipe organ. Included in the tour is a marzipan-making activity that will delight your sweet toothand give you enough to take some home and share. After lunch, climb on the famous Tree Path Kopfing. Walk among the treetops along 41 connected towers that provide an unparalleled view of the surrounding forest and the majestic Austrian Alps. Follow your Adventure Guide up the steps to the tree line and along the rope bridges. Kids can enjoy playing on a giant slide and fun-filled adventure playground.

Spend the day exploring the 900-year-old Hohenwerfen Castle—a stunning example of medieval life. Immortalized in film when it provided the backdrop for "Do-Re-Mi" in The Sound of Music, it is a strategic fortress sitting atop a rock pillar that looms above the Salzachtal Valley. Learn about its history and secrets as you examine the pitch kitchen, bell tower, battlements and armory as well as weaponry over the ages that tell the tales of battles and sieges. Cultural Activities and Swimming in the Danube River
Get a taste of the local flavors with a fish activity, marmalade-making, wine and juice tasting. Also, take a traditional Austrian dance lesson and learn more about the Danube River, which lies beneath the abbey.

OPTION A: Tour of the Countryside with a Bike Ride from Melk to Krems
Take a serene 3-hour bike ride from Melk to Krems (via the storybook village of Drnstein) and enjoy the pastoral landscape dotted with rolling Wachau Valley vineyards.

OPTION B: Pretzel Making and Games for Junior Adventurers and Wine Tasting for Adults
Junior Adventurers will have a blast with pretzel makingand tasting. After they finish making treats, the children can play some classic board games. For our adult Adventurers, savor every sip of Wachau Valley Wines as local vineyards drift by. For Guests who choose Option B, please select an additional afternoon activity:
 
  • OPTION B-1: Tour of Drnstein and Hike to the Castle: Join local expert for a guided tour of Drnstein including the famous ruins of the castle Burgruine Drnstein. Rich and full of history, this tour takes you through one the most popular tourist sites in the region and gives you incredible views from the castle of the river, vineyards and villages. (Weather dependent.)
  • OPTION B-2: Bike Along the Danube River from Krems to Drnstein: This 1-hour bike ride is the perfect choice for those who desire a little less pedaling than our 3-hour option. Ride along the gorgeous Danube River, leisurely pedaling down a picturesque bike path towards Drnstein.
  • OPTION B-3: Experience a Family-Run Apricot Farm: Visit a working apricot farm in a region that specializes in apricots and taste the products made there. Enjoy wine for the adults, juice for the kids, a tour of the vineyardsand the grove for all. Take home a jar of marmalade home as a reminder of the visit!

Tour of Historic Schnbrunn Palace
Enjoy a privately guided tour of Schnbrunn Palace (translated as "beautiful spring")one of the most magnificent palaces in the Hapsburg territory. Learn the rich history of this World Cultural Heritage site, a testament to Baroque. Explore the terraced gardens, including one called The Orangery that is the longest in the world and others that include a maze and a labyrinth.
